Eric Birnberg, LL.B. is an experienced corporate and entertainment lawyer with hands-on experience in film and television production, distribution and broadcasting.
Prior to co-founding Behind The Scenes Services, Eric spent eight years with Alliance Atlantis, Canada’s largest integrated filmed entertainment company, holding senior management positions including Sr. VP, Business & Legal Affairs for the Television Group, and General Counsel to the entire Alliance Atlantis organization. Prior to that, he was Legal Counsel at Canada’s pre-eminent pay television channel, The Movie Network. Eric began his career as a corporate/commercial and securities lawyer in private practice on Bay Street, representing both private and public companies in a variety of industries.
Eric has executive produced a variety of film and television projects, most recently the live action thriller “Nightrunners” shot on Rusinga Island, Kenya, and the primetime animated family movie “Pirate’s Passage” written and produced by Donald Sutherland and Brad Peyton. He is a partner in the Toronto-based production company High Park Entertainment Inc., which is currently in development on several Canadian-originated projects, including the feature films “Catwalk”, based on the soon-to-be launched Broadway musical, and the MOW “The Hockey Stick”, based on a true life story. Eric is also a partner in the Toronto-based company Behind the Scenes Services Inc. which handles a full range of business affairs and administration services for Canadian film, television and digital media producers and a shareholder of Digital Howard Inc. a Canadian developer of unique 360 digital projects. Eric was also a founding shareholder of BITE-TV, a Canadian digital television channel that is now part of the Blue And Media Group.
Eric is a member of the Canadian Media Production Association’s (CMPA) Business & Production Finance Committee and its Copyright Committee, and as a CMPA representative, he sits on the boards of the Canadian Retransmission Collective (CRC), and the Producers Audio-Visual Collective of Canada (PACC), as Vice-Chairman and Chairman, respectively.
